In APA, in-text citations appear as (Smith, 2023). In IEEE, they appear as [1] — a bracketed number matching the reference list. IEEE numbers references in the order they first appear in the text, not alphabetically.
IEEE requires abbreviated journal titles using standard abbreviations (e.g., "Trans." for Transactions, "Lett." for Letters, "Conf." for Conference). APA uses the full journal title. Always check the official IEEE abbreviations list for accuracy.
Converters change references from one style to another. For example, it helps to change bibliography from APA-format to MLA-format. Paperpile offers converter for formats, that allows to copy and paste bibliography from one kind to another, between others from APA to MLA, from PMID to Excel and others.

Tools to Make and Change Citations
Most of these tools work both as generators and converters. They automatically gather info like title, names of authors, date of publication and all other parts needed for creating proper citation. Some of them work as extensions for browsers meaning to cite any page or article by means of one tap.
The extension takes on itself the heavy task of collecting all involved information automatically.
Mybib creates precise citations for books, newspapers, websites and videos simply searching title or identifier like URL or ISBN. No ads, no download and no account is needed. Citation Machine helps to properly credit info and backs thousands of styles.
It can create citations in APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian and Harvard freely. Citefast is another free option, that covers APA, MLA and Chicago, and also prepares in-text citations and pages for titles.
Some tools stress certain styles. There is a free generator for citations in IEEE-style, made for the Institute of Electricity and Electronic Engineers. Wordvice gives a generator, that cares about APA 6 and 7, MLA 7 and 8 Chicago 17th and Vancouver.
A special generator for APA Citation is updated according to the 7th edition of APA and accepts URLs of websites, ISBNs of books or searches according to keywords.
Grammarly also has a free citation generator, created by specialists about writing. It builds on the newest editions of APA, MLA and the Chicago Manual of Style. Automatic formatting for pages of cited works and bibliographies is available for MLA, APA and Chicago/Turabian, with support for the 7th edition of MLA.
There also exist tools based on DOI. One can enter a known DOI by means of typing or pasting, then choose a style like Chicago or IEEE Citation from a dropdown menu. One of them even shows live previews in real time and handles several authors and several citations at the same time.
Another allows to sight several sources together and generate in-text citations directly in the text of the article.
Citation generators can sometimes create a bit of error. If one does not know how to format citations yourself, finding those mistakes becomes really extra. Scribbr uses technology of AI or human specialists for checking in-text citations and references against mistakes and errors.
Zotero is another thing that is worth knowing, and its simpler version called ZoteroBib works as a generator for single citations. More than thousand styles are available through various tools, so finding theapt format usually is not a problem.
