How to Use a GPA Calculator
What exactly is GPA? It is short for “grade point average” and simply a weighted average of your grades during a set time. That can be one semester, a whole school year or your whole time in school.
Your official transcript usually shows semester or quarterly averages for every period, together with the cumulative total. For instance, if you received B in a 3-credit music theory course, that is 3.0 × 3 = 9.0 grade points. Doing that for every course, you sum all credit hours and all grade points, then divide the total grade points by the total credits. That gives your GPA.
