The ACT superscore is the average of the best scores from various sections through several tests It does not depend on one single exam but takes the maximum for every subject from all times you did the test. This way you get a new composite score that is commonly higher.

from April 2025, students that do the online ACT will have their superscore counted only from English, math and reading. The other change will go in September 2025. The maximum points for every part will show together with the date, but the superscore in the report will base only on those three subjects.

What the ACT Superscore Is and the 2025 Changes

If you never take the new version, the superscore will still include math, reading, English and science from the old form.

Interesting spot is mixing old and new formats. The ACT superscore can combine results from paper and online tests. If you took the paper test in June, the composite score and superscore will have science.

But for the online test in June, they entirely lvae science.

All points of ACT are whole numbers. They round upward at 0.5 or more and down under that. Each test gives a composite score by the average of the four sections.

The superscore goes further and chooses only the best section results.

Here is a fast sample. On the first test a student has 25 in reading, 18 in math, 25 in English and 23 in science, which gives a composite of 23. Second it is 25 reading, 20 math, 25 English and 25 science, so average 24.

But superscore from the highest from every section reach 26.

Not all universities accept superscores. Some yes, some no, so check the page of every school. Those that accept commonly ask to send all test results.

They see the subscores of each sent attempt. Many prefer superscore because it helps them show a higher average for admitted students and improve there ranks.

The ACT now strongly promotes superscoring. Students with several tests see their superscore at login. It appears in a banner on almost every page.

Even so not every school announced that it will accept it. ACT research shows that superscore better shows the skill of a student. Schools will not judge you because of one bad day when better points from other dates are available.
