The TOEFL Junior tests are for students between 11 and 17 years. They measure the skill to communicate in English and help teachers and parents choose the best path for the student. The examinations give clarity about strengths and troubles which is useful for placement and for tracking progress over time
Every part of the TOEFL Junior Standard test receives a score of 200 to 300 points. The whole score results from the sum of the three partial scores, so it ranges between 600 and 900 points. There are no penalties for wrong answers, so the scores depend only on the number of right answers.

Scores match levels of the CEFR, which helps teachers judge the student according to internationally accepted standards. The scores of reading insight also link to Lexile measures of MetaMetrics. The TOEFL Junior Standard test comes in paper format, that easily fits in any school area. In the listening part students listen to recordings with various talks and discussions. After every audio chip they hear questions and choose the best answer from four options.
In the reading section they read texts and later answer questions about them, choosing from four possible variants.
There is an official manual called Official Guide to the TOEFL Junior Standard Test. It shows the whole test together with tips for testing and explanations about types of questions. It also has an audio CD for practice listening and a full practice test.
Because it comes directly from the source, it is hard to beat. The manual is available in English, but Korean and Chinese versions are found at big online bookstores.
Other good prep books use texts from English speaking lands, so the language sounds real and fresh. The content of the book is varied. In it students find classroom lessons, chats, academic speeches, announcements, articles, letters and stories, that commonly appear in actual TOEFL Junior tests.
Some reading texts are encyclopedia explanations, while others list advantages and disadvantages of things, talk about problems and solutions or describe uses and benefits of topics.
