The English section of the ACT forms the first part of the examination. In it you check rhetorical talent with grammar, punctuation, structure of sentences and usage. It covers more than 25% of the whole score.
The section stores 50 questions with multiple choices. Most you can reach 40 points total. Here the reason: only 40 questions affect the final score, while 10 do not count.
How the ACT English Section Works
Total score simply shows how many questions you answered correctly.
A score chart of the ACT helps to convert total points to scales. Every part of the ACT estimates from 1 until 36, in one step increase. Those marks intend to show school achievements and progress.
In English, 36 is the maximum. Typical students fall around 20 points. Specifically, the average score here is 20.3.
Whether a score is good, depends on the criteria of the schools you want to visit. Some see English and math sections more important for college. The overall score averages the marks from English, math, reading and scientific tests.
For it you add those four and share by means of 4, later round to next whole number. Perfect average reaches 36.
For well results, students learn to recognise subjects and verbs, identify modifiers in sentences and clauses, and rule punctuation. It is better know real rules than only follow what sounds well. For instance, idiom mistakes deal with conjunctions and prepositions.
They commonly confuse, because do not always obey rules. Also it matters to study clauses: identify independent from dependent and bind them by means of commas, semicolons or parentheses. You do not mix marks as comma with semicolon.
It helps to examine sentence-structures carefully. Books help more than video, because you can underline it. Copy of “How to Score High on the ACT” from bookstore give guide and advice.
Amsco commonly issue such. Read funny books, for instance young adult dystopias or stories, also are usefull. Some students succeed by means of prep book of the ACT.
