The points of the GRE Verbal part is given on a scale of 130 until 170. These levels adjust in one spot. 130 mark the lowest score while 170 is the highest.
The scores for Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning are based on the number of right answers in the parts of the test. In the Verbal section you do not write anything. Instead, it checks how well you understand words, their links and their role in the sentences.

What is a good GRE score depends on the programs you want. For many programs, 75th percentile or more so 158 or more in Verbal Reasoning are quite good. For top programs you need at least 90th percentile that is 163 or more in Verbal.
The average score for all GRE test takers is now 150 in Verbal. At native speakers the number is around 152-155. For get 165 or more you must get at least 9 questions right in the first Verbal section.
Here the algorithm starts to adapt. While 170 in Quantitative mostly need perfection in Verbal you can make one mistake and still get 170.

Vocabulary in the head helps to make the Verbal test easier. Good vocabulary is the best way for Sentence Match and Text Completion. Also read the everyday newspaper or articles from The New Yorker Scientific American The Atlantic or The Economist improve.
Read one article daily about an unknown topic builds attention. Even if some questions seem to trick you take deep breaths and go to the next.
