AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is the best and 1 the lowest Many U.S. Colleges give credit or advanced placement for scores of 3 and above. Scores of 4 or 5 can lead to college credit, which lets you skip a class without paying for it. About half of college credits come from general education requirements that do not relate to the major, so AP scores of 4 or 5, and sometimes 3, can replace some of those classes.

AP scores form a weighted mix of results from various parts of the exam. They cover multiple-choice questions in almost all subjects, free answers or essays, and in some subjects also projects, performance tasks, portfolios or ratings through the year. The scores show a weighted average of performance in different sections.
How AP Scores Work and Help You in College
A 5 is like an A in the college level. 4 is like a B, and 3 is like a C. 3 is usually the lowest passing score for most colleges. 2 is not considered a passing score by the College Board and it is not a good AP score generally.
A good AP score shows that you can absorb information, recall it and use knowledge on demand.
The College Board issues the distibution of scores for every subject, so you can see what percentage earned each score on the 5-point scale. Those tables show the percentages of 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s for every AP subject. A score of 3 or higher means passing, but many students do not reach it.
AP scores are used mainly to skip intro courses. They do not matter a lot for admission. A good score does not really help the entry, and a bad one does not hurt it a lot.
You can decide later whether to send the AP score. If the college accepts self-reporting and does not require all results, a low score does not have to be included in the application. A score of 2 probably should not be sent to colleges.
You can check AP exam scores online by signing in with a College Board account and password. They appear in July, starting at 8 AM Eastern. Teachers do not have automatic access to official scores.
Students cannot see the specific breakdown of their exam, because the College Board does not keep individual tests for review. AP teachers however receive a point-by-point analysis that students probably will not see. Prep books make practice tests harder than the real exam, so low practice scores should not shakeyour confidence.
