The results of the tests about American history passed some difficult years recently. For eighth grade, the average score in 2022 was only 258 from 500. That is a decline of 5 points compared with 263 in 2018.

Actually, the points fell for almost ten years, because in 2014 they were 267 The result of 2022 almost matches the 259 points of 1994, when you first gave this test. Basically, the scores returned to the level from almost 30 years ago.
US history test scores are falling
These data come from a national sample of around 8 000 students. A similar fall happened in math and reading, especially during the pandemic. In all subjects, the declines were strongest for the students with the lowest results.
That worries the federal officials, who now consider rewriting the questions to meet the needs of these pupils. In history, it seems that poor reading skills played a role in the low success.
Those challenges do not stop at history and civics. It is very sad to see students decline like this, because knowledge about American history and civics are basic for every high school.
Entirely different, the AP US History exam is a different thing. It covers the history of 1491 until now, shared in nine periods. The test is made up of two parts: the first has multiple choice and short questions, and the second carries a document-based task and long essay.
You score it by a scale of 1 to 5, where 5 is the highest. A score of 3 or more commonly gives colledge credit, depending on the schools. Like this, 3 is considered a qualified result.
The STAAR US History test uses a different method. It is scored by a scaled score.
And then is the SAT US History Subject Test. It is one of the 20 tests offered by the College Board. Because all American high schools teach that and many top universities consider it important, a good score can help in getting into top schools.
A raw score of around 80 from 90 usually means a perfect scaled score of 800. On the other hand, the Praxis World and US History Content Knowledge test uses another system, with a range of 0 to 100.
A score of 5 on the AP test is about 70 percent. The AP classes really test whether you can think as a historian, instead of only recalling facts. The multiple choice questions can be hard at first, but with more practice, it becomes easier to toss the wrong answers and find the rightone.
