Many schools use a 4.0 scale to count the GPA. In that system, an A is 4 points, B is 3, C is 2, D is 1, and F is 0. The school counts the GPA by changing every grade to points, multiplying by credits, and finally dividing the amount by the total credits.
What Is High School GPA
Standard level courses have different weight than honors or DE courses. To honors courses you add 0.5 points, and also AP and DE courses get extra weight. In some schools, if a student takes advanced classes as AP or IB, there is a bonus of 0.25 points.
Like this, a grade value of 4 can become 5. This is when weighted GPA is used. If you do not know whether a school uses weighted GPA, it is hard to comprare results between different schools.
The GPA includes all four years of high school. Even so, if a student fills an application for university but the last year grades are not ready, you use the most current available data. You can find the GPA with the school counselor or read it on the report card every semester.
Some universities look at only the core courses, like math, sciences, language and social studies, to determine the GPA. Other universities prefer to see the amount of honors courses and the general difficulty of the curriculum. For many colleges, especially the most particular, the most important part in the transcript is not only the GPA, the class rank or the number of AP courses.
High university GPA is more critical later. After you have college grades, the high school GPA becomes less important. Grad studies generally do not care about the high school impact.
If a student has a good college transcript, everything probably will be well.
