For 2 authors, separate with “and” (no comma): J. Smith and A. Lee. For 3–6, use commas and “and” before the last. For 7+, use only the first author followed by et al.
Include DOI when available as: doi: 10.1109/TNNLS.2022.123456. For online articles, also add the URL if needed. DOI takes precedence over URL for journal articles.
Citation converter is a program that changes bibliographic references from one style to another. The most many citation programs now automatically create precise references. Mybib does citations for books, newspapers, web pages and videos simply by searching the title or identifier, like URL or ISBN. Citation Machine helps pupils and experts to correctly point out the used information, backing styles like APA, MLA, Chicago, Turabian and Harvard, and all free.

Extensions for browsers simplify the task even more. Those extensions can cite every page or article with only one tap. They automatically grab the title, authors, date of publication and all other needed parts to create an ideal citation.
One does not need too copy and paste details one after the other.
Some programs are fully free, without ads, without installation and without need of an account, while they cover more than 1,000 styles. The citation generator of Grammarly does not have ads and creates well formatted references according to the newest editions of APA, MLA and the Chicago Manual of Style. Citefast is another free option for APA, MLA and Chicago, that prepares references, bibliographic lists, in-text citations and title pages very quickly.
Some generators focus on special formats. There is a free generator for IEEE Citation styles, fit for printed and digital texts. Wordvice built a generator that deals with APA 6 and 7, MLA 7 and 8, Chicago 17th and Vancouver.

Even so not every program is clean. Citation generators sometimes make errors, and if one does not know the right format itself, those mistakes can stay unnoticed. Some tools require that one enter every bit of information by hand, including author initials and full titles, which can be annoying.

In-text references are also important. Some programs care about both in-text citations and full lists of references. Scribbr uses artificial intelligence to check citations and references against mistakes and gaps.
There are also guides about citations that store clear samples and steps to arrange texts, annotated bibliographic lists and pages of citedworks. Gcite aims to cite several sources at once and include in-text citations directly in the text.
