These bands use the standard IELTS-style anchors. Listening and Reading can vary a little by test version, so treat the chart as a strong calculator baseline.

The IELTS test uses special 9-band system for scoring. Do not exist pass or fail here. Instead, you estimate score according to scale of 0 until 9.
All results fall between 0 and 9, and you can receive also scores, for instance 6.5 or 7.5. Every participant receives Test report Form, that works as the official IELTS reference. Those results range of 1st band (non-user) until 9th band (expert user).
How IELTS scoring works
Every school or institution decides itself, that minimal band it needs.
Candidates receive separate band scores for each from the four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The average of those four scores gives the whole band score. You round this average to the most nearby whole or half number.
For instance, 7.1 become 7.0. The band descriptions of IELTS explain carefully, that language skills belong to every level. Every band shows particular kind of language resources and scope.
In the Reading section is 40 questions. For reach band 7, you must answer correctly 30 until 32 from them. So, maximum 8 until 10 mistakes are allowed.
The academic version is even more hard. The final score one rounds down to near 0.5 or whole score; fractions simply get smaller. Charts show, how many marks require for every band in reading.
The Listening section has also 40 questions. They base on four recordings with conversations, speeches and lessons. It measures, as well you understand spoken English in everyday and study situations.
In Writing the two tasks one estimates from 9 according to criteria as task achievement for task 1 and task response for task 2. For Speaking the examiner estimates fluency and cohesion, word power, grammar and pronunciation.
Banda score of 7 you consider ideal. Many universities want 7 until 7.5 for college requests. Best places require at least 6.5 or 7.0. 9.0 it is possible, but for 99% of students it is not real.
